To achieve the best survey possible, please review the steps listed below:
Bimini Boat Surveying will request that the interior and exterior of the boat is clean and as uncluttered as possible. This allows us to fully inspect the system components typically installed in storage areas and compartments.
We also suggest to make arrangements with the marina to haul the vessel for bottom inspection and to arrange a captain for the sea trial.
Can I be present at the boat during the survey?
Of course. We encourage the client to join and be present during the survey so they may be walked through the inspection process and can make note during the survey’s findings being mentioned.
What are marine surveyors qualifications?
Qualifications are very diverse among marine surveyors. Many banks and insurance companies look for membership in one of two organizations SAMS and NAMS. Bimini Boat Surveying is a proud member of the SAMS organization.
How long will the survey take?
The answer to this depends on the size, condition and complexity of your boat. If it’s large with many complicated systems, if it’s in poor condition, or not properly prepped for the survey then it will take more time. Typical surveys take between 6 and 8 hours (with a sea trial).
How much does a boat survey cost?
Pre-Purchase Survey: This is the most comprehensive type of survey, typically required when buying a boat over 24 feet. In Michigan, this service costs from $20 to $28 per foot of the boat’s length. For example, a 30-foot boat could cost between $600 and $840.
Insurance Survey: Often less detailed than a pre-purchase survey, this is used to assess the boat’s condition and value for insurance purposes. In Michigan, this typically costs $15 to $24 per foot, so a 30-foot boat might range from $450 to $720.
